Endau Rompin (Pahang)

Date : 25 to 26 May 2013

This post ends my quests in Endau Rompin.
My previous trips can be found here:
1. Selai via Bekok town - details can be found here An Outing in Endau Rompin (Selai)
2. Peta via Kahang town - details can be found here Endau Rompin (Peta)

How to get there :
As it was a weekend getaway for me, my travel time was from Tanjung Resang in Mersing to entrance of the park, 45 mins.
From Mersing town head towards Kuala Rompin.
Before arriving at Kuala Rompin, there is a road sign which says turn left into Endau Rompin National Park.
This road follows the Felda Selendang Road and it will lead right to the entrance of the park.

Endau Rompin (Peta)

Date : 31 Aug 2012 to 2 Sept 2012

My little quest for adventures in Endau Rompin.
As a little background, Endau Rompin National Park is the second largest in Peninsula Malaysia (after Taman Negara) and it straddles on the borders of Pahang and Johor.
In Johor there are two entrances into the park
1. Selai via Bekok town - details can be found here An Outing in Endau Rompin (Selai)
2. Peta via Kahang town - details below

And in Pahang there is one entrance into the park.

Usually when a person says he / she has been to Endau Rompin it is the Peta entrance as the famed Buaya Sangkut falls is accessed through this entrance.
The Pahang entrance is the least known amongst the three and least accessed, as far as I know.

How to get there :
Travel time : Approx 4 hours from KL to Kahang.
Travel on the North South Expressway and exit at the Ayer Hitam exit. After that follow the road to Mersing and you will pass by Kluang and then Kahang.
Kahang is a small town and make sure you don't miss it!
The National Park office is just located beside the road on your right.
This is where you can park your cars and take the 4WD in.

Prior arrangements will need to be made with the park - bookings of 4WD and guide. Details are as below:

Sg Lumpur

Date : 8 Jan 2012

Another late post.
Sometimes its nice to re-post much later... they do bring back memories of the day.
(Keeps me from having memory failure too!)

How to get there :
Travel time : 1 hour from Bangsar
Using the old trunk road, drive past the towns of Rawang, Serendah, Batang Kali and head towards Ulu Tamu.

Trekking time and terrain :
On moderate speed with some photography -3 hours
Terrain rating 4/10
To the first fall is a easy peasy, 30 mins walk (stroll)
To where we stopped, I think its the 4th fall. There are forks along the way and the path is not clear.

At the waterfalls :
There are a few waterfalls along the way, we did not complete up to the 5th fall (was told that the 5th one is also a nice fall). We stopped at 4th due to time constraints.

At the 1st fall - nice pool and can swim

2nd fall

3rd fall

A little cascade, with signs of heavy downpour?

4th fall, where we stopped

Gushing water

Durian, we chopped it this way as there were too many mouths to feed, all getting impatient

Cleaning up at Ulu Tamu River

Nice trek that ended up with a durian feast.
By the way, Sg Lumpur can actually join up to Sg Kedondong.
One can enter from Sg Lumpur and exit at Sg Kedondong - but your car will be miles away.
So make sure that preparations are done properly if this is attempted.

Lata Gerehang

Date :18 Dec 2011

Wow, this post is 10 months later!
Have been so stuck at work amidst other things too..... but who is complaining? Being busy is better than having nothing to do!

How to get there :
Travel time : 1.5 hours from Bangsar
Head on towards Tanjung Malim and exit on the NS highway and then follow the road to Behrang Ulu. Then look for an abandoned housing area called Diamond Creek. Once you get to the Diamond Creek housing area, follow the path till you come to a roundabout. Take 9 o'clock. Then just follow the path till another roundabout. This is where you start to trek in.
(Pardon me, as this was almost a year old, my memory could also be failing me)

Trekking time and terrain :
On moderate speed with some photography -2 hours
Terrain rating 4/10
Actual terrain and path leading to the falls I will need to revisit!

At the waterfall :
A tall fall with an elongated pool (above a cascade).
Go upwards and there is a place that one can go behind the waterfall.
At the lower cascade, can do a jump.

This is the 2nd roundabout where you park your car and start trekking

Little cascades along the way

First mini fall that one can go for natural reflexology

I always call this little Astro dishes

Lata Gerehang

Mid section of Lata Gerehang. Can go behind the falls here
It was quite a large group for this trip and as a result we got separated.
But luckily there were 2 people who has been to this fall and could lead. We mostly followed the river path and there were a few crossings.
To some people we call this the New Strata Falls - simply because its newly discovered.
